About Psalm 23 Counseling

Psalm 23 Counseling exists so that you have a trained counselor walking with you on your healing journey. We all go through storms. They can knock us overboard and leave us feeling like we are drowning, lost, and alone. Often in the middle of one we have no idea where to begin rebuilding from the damage.

A trained counselor can help you find peace, calmness, direction, and hope during the storm, and guide you onto a path that sets you back on stable ground next to still waters.

Whether you are dealing with grief, anxiety, or an undecided college or career choice, our counselor uses biblical guidance alongside an eclectic theoretical approach. The method is chosen to fit you, rather than the other way around.

About me

Stephanie Dean, MA, LPC Associate

My mission is to provide Christ centered counseling to those struggling with grief, anxiety, and deciding the right college or career path. Every client is different, so I use the therapeutic techniques that fit the person in front of me. All of them are centered on biblical truth.

I have experienced deep grief and the loss of a spouse. My journey has led me to walk with others in their own. It is a journey that should not be done alone.

Psalm 23 holds a special place in my heart. Growing up I faced many trials, and I would recite it to guide me through difficult losses and high anxiety moments. It reminds me that God walks with me in the deep valleys, and I want to share that same comfort with you.

Where I focus

  • Complicated grief, including the loss of a spouse or a parent
  • The anxiety of motherhood and of caregiving
  • Career burnout and choosing a path
Soft mist through a quiet stand of trees
"The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. He makes me lie down in green pastures; he leads me beside the still waters. He restores my soul; he leads me in the paths of righteousness for his name's sake. Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil; for you are with me; your rod and your staff they comfort me. You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies; you anoint my head with oil; my cup runs over. Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life; and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever." Psalm 23

Faith centered counseling

What biblical counseling is

Biblical counseling, Christian counseling, and faith centered counseling all describe the same thing here. Scripture is the foundation of the work, not something added at the end of a session.

It is real counseling

Stephanie is a Licensed Professional Counselor Associate practicing under clinical supervision. The techniques used in session are established therapeutic approaches, selected to fit you rather than applied from a script.

Built on biblical truth

Ordinary therapy asks what you believe about yourself. Biblical counseling asks that too, and then asks what God says about you. Scripture, prayer, and devotional practice are part of the work, not a footnote to it.

Practical, not abstract

The aim is a faith you can actually lean on in daily actions and daily thoughts. We work on what you do on a Tuesday morning, not only on what you believe on a Sunday.

Questions

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between biblical counseling, Christian counseling, and faith centered counseling?

At Psalm 23 Counseling they all mean the same thing. Different people search for different words, so all three are used here. In each case it means professional counseling where scripture is the foundation for understanding your life, rather than something added on at the end of a session.

Do I have to be a Christian to come to counseling here?

No. Every client is different in personality, beliefs, behavior, and background, and sessions are built around the person in front of me. Nobody is pushed anywhere they do not want to go. If a biblical perspective is what you have been looking for, it is here in full.

What does a first session look like?

The first session is held in person at the Weatherford office, and it is mostly listening. You tell your story at whatever pace feels right, and if there is time we start setting the goals you want counseling to work toward. After that first visit, you and your counselor decide together whether to continue in person or online.

Do you offer online counseling in Texas?

Yes. Sessions are offered in person in Weatherford and online. The first session must be in person, and after that the counselor and client decide together which format works going forward.

What do you help with?

Grief and loss, including complicated grief and the loss of a spouse. Anxiety, including the anxiety of motherhood and of caring for someone who is terminally ill. College and career direction, including career burnout. Both individual sessions and small groups are available.

How long does counseling take?

That depends on you, and it is not a race. Healing from the scars takes time and attention. It is similar to breaking an arm or a leg: you have to give it time and attention to heal.

Do you take insurance?

Psalm 23 Counseling is self pay, so sessions are not billed to insurance. Please still get in touch. Pricing is discussed when you reach out and a sliding scale can be worked out, so cost does not have to be the reason you put this off.

How do I book, and how much does it cost?

Individual sessions can be requested through the client portal, or by calling or texting (281) 728-3398. Groups are booked by call, text, or email rather than through the portal. After you get in touch, someone will reach out about pricing and scheduling, and you are free to ask any questions about the service first.
