At one point in my life I was so heavily focused on my career that the other areas of my life began to falter. I sat down and started to look at the important areas of life. In my research I came across what I call the -als of life, meaning our physical, mental, emotional, financial, and spiritual well-being. I wrote down some questions to evaluate those areas. If you need help balancing all the areas of your life, these questions will help you.
Physical well-being
- How do I treat my body?
- Do I treat it like a temple?
- Diet: what am I feeding my body?
- Activity: what do I do with my body?
Mental well-being
- What thoughts am I letting live rent free in my head?
- How do I rest my mind?
- How do I use my mind?
- How do I expand and challenge my mind?
Emotional well-being
- Do I understand my emotions, and can I name them?
- Who do I let affect my emotions?
- Who is connected to my emotions?
- How do I manage my emotions?
Financial well-being
- Where am I spending my money?
- How am I saving my money?
- Am I making responsible choices with my money?
- Am I giving back to God with my money?
Spiritual well-being
- What do I use for my foundation of faith?
- Where or what do I turn to in order to anchor me during a storm?
- Where do I place my faith, hope, and trust?
- How do I use my faith to restore my mental, emotional, and physical well-being?
The more I used these questions, the more easily I could identify which areas needed more attention. In my journey I have found that my spiritual well-being affects every other area. If I am stumbling spiritually, the other areas start to crumble. I challenge you to start using these questions to evaluate your life.
As always, thank you for reading, and I hope you learned something new.
