Seasons of Life

Written by Stephanie Dean

As the seasons change I find myself reflecting on the seasons of my life, and I am thankful for the different ones we are given. In life we have joyful seasons full of laughter, playing, singing, dancing, and pure joy. I love those seasons. Every time I remember watching my five year old daughter play, or remember my late husband being goofy to get me to smile, joy fills my heart. That kind of joy brings happiness into my life even when my circumstances are hard at that moment. My heart starts to glimmer with light and my face smiles with joy. Memories of joyful seasons are good ones to hold on to in the difficult seasons.

We all know the difficult seasons too well, the ones where it never seems to stop raining, where we can never catch a break, and we are just tired of running. Those seasons are not fun. There is no light, not a lot of joy, and sometimes very little hope. Sometimes a difficult season feels like it is going to stay forever. It is easy to get stuck in it. It is easy to want to run and hide while we wait for it to pass.

During those seasons my encouragement is to dive into the truths that anchor you. Truths that hold you steady in a wavering storm. It is difficult to tell truth from lies in our own mind when we are fighting a storm. Remember the joyful seasons. Remember who you truly are. Remember who God is, and who he says you are. These are truth anchors to hold on to when the storm knocks you down.

I am reminded of when Peter walked on water. He stayed above the water while he kept his eyes and his faith on Jesus. That is what we have to do in difficult seasons. Focus on the one who can hold us steady, who can calm the storm, who is the powerful and loving author of life. When we focus on him instead of on our circumstances and our problems, peace starts to fill our hearts. The difficult season may last a while, but if we hold on to our truth anchor we will make it out of the storm with peace in our hearts.

Whether you are going through a joyful season or a difficult one, remember what your truth anchor is. Who or what do you hold on to and never lose grip of?

Thank you for reading. I hope you have a peaceful moment today, grounded in truth.
